Thinh Le made a series of panoramic photographs of Hanoi that were exhibited there in 2001. More recently he has also made panoramas of the city of Shanghai. Inside Commuter Train (2001) presents an unembellished view of a daily commute. The journey is unremarkable and the interiors of the train are grimly functional. The faces of its passengers are without emotion - their passages are ordinary, without the expectation of newness.
Thinh Le was born in Saigon in 1964. He graduated in 1988 from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in computer science and architecture. His photography has mostly been exhibited in the United States of America, and also in Hanoi and Paris at the French Institute of Architecture.
